About PFAS "Forever Chemicals"
PFAS are a class of about 15,000 compounds most frequently used to make products that are water, stain and grease resistant.
They have been linked to cancer, birth defects, decreased immunity, high cholesterol, kidney disease and a range of other serious health concerns.
Significant sources of PFAS contamination are from sites where manufacturers illegally dump PFAS into sources of water. Also, when landfills contain PFAS, it's common for them to seep into groundwater. It can also happen when PFAS-containing products are burnt in incinerators.
Reducing PFAS in Drinking water

Where do PFAS come from?
PFAS can be found in a variety of consumer products, including non-stick cookware, water-repellent fabrics, firefighting foam, and food packaging, to name a few.
PFOA and PFOS have been slowly phased out of use and removed from consumer products, and the average amount detected in human blood appears to be declining over the past two decades.
However, dozens of other PFAS compounds remain in use, caused by industrial polluters, such as military bases and installations, where firefighting foam laced with PFAS is a major cause of groundwater contamination.
